Priestly was futzing. The apartment looked fine, he'd put away the liquor and all the empty bottles that were a natural result of living with Dean, the bed had fresh sheets on it, and there were fresh towels available if Dinah wanted to shower. He had more food than any two (or three or four or five) people could actually eat in a weekend, all set to make whatever it was Dinah might be interested in, and Dean had been warned of her impending arrival.

He was as prepared as he was going to be. So he was . . . futzing.

"Maybe they knew Karla would rip them a new one if anything more happened to Jono." She lolled her head sideways at him, trying to think. "Um. Anything not stew. I'm sick of stew, seriously." She beamed at him. "I'm here!"

Yeah, mood-swings might be a thing for a while.

"You are!" And she seemed to be in one piece and not too completely traumatized! Not that Priestly actually knew how to recognize war trauma that didn't involve bawling in a corner. "How about a sandwich to start? I've actually already got the stuff for a Lancer all laid out."

"I love you, you are my favorite," Dinah said fervently. "That sounds really awesome."

Heck, Dinah didn't know if she had trauma. She'd been in work mode for almost three months now without a break. Maybe she would've already broken down if she had trauma? ... or not, given she'd cried twice today already.

"Dean doesn't mind me crashing with you guys? I still don't want to put him off his couch." Her lips quirked sideways. "Plus, sleeping on his weapons." Another stomach growl. "Oh, jeez. Food, I guess."

"Yeah, 'cause I'm totally making you sleep on the couch," Priestly said. He brought over a bag of chips to tide Dinah over while he finished her sandwich. "Dean's cool. I told him he could keep the couch if he wanted. I can always crash on the floor."

That probably also wouldn't happen. It was a pretty big bed.

Dinah had already stuffed a handful of delicious, nummy salty potato chips in her mouth, so: "Mmmmph!" And swallow. "Priestly, no, I'm not putting you out of your bed. That's just silly. I've been sleeping on uncomfy cots and the ground for weeks and weeks, being inside with no snow is super enough... man, I missed junk food." She wandered over to watch him make food, fighting the urge to giggle and cry at the same time at the familiarity.

"That is exactly why you get the bed," Priestly said, gesturing with a butter knife. "Returning war heroes get beds. It's not actually a law, but it should be."

Dinah turned bright red, suddenly getting Jono's objection to being called 'General.' "I'm not a hero." Nom, potato chips. "At least, not any bit more than anybody else there, and we're not done yet, and..." Uh, where was she going with that? "Beds. Can be shared?" If he wouldn't mind? 'Cause... well, it would be nice, okay?

"Did I say they weren't? You're just the one of 'em I can offer the bed to." Also, she was Dinah, so she was better than them by default.

Sorry other guys.

"You want me there, we can share. It's a pretty big bed."

They'd be happy to know they could crash if they ever got to Fandom?

"Yeaaah." You're going to get used as a teddy-bear, Priestly. Just so you know. "Kinda do. Even if Dean's gonna make smart remarks." She wandered to the fridge, opening it and marveling a little at all the foooood, then got herself a soda. "Want a drink?... I can't believe how warm it is here. I think I'm having counter-culture-shock, or something. It was just above freezing when we left."

"Freezing? In a world called 'Glacia'? Noooo." Stop snarking, Priestly, it's unbecoming. "Dean can get over himself. Though he'll probably just assume we're having sex."

Or that Priestly was gay. Either way.

Dinah didn't choke on her drink. Instead she looked wistful. "I remember sex. Vaguely. That was..." Oh man, it was either Ozzy or Priestly. "Way too long ago." She slid the second pop over to Priestly, watching him chop veggies into the mystery part of the Lancer. "Not exactly on offer in Glacia. Among other things."

"I guess quarters were a bit tight?" What was that she'd said about spending nights sleeping on the ground? "Well, we'll have to do something about that."

He meant find her someone to hook up with. Maybe head over to Santa Cruz and find Ozzy.

Okay, that was simultaneously funny, and yet not, somehow. Dinah settled on smiling and said, "Most of the last two months I shared a tent or room with Momoko. Or Momoko and Samantha. Or the back of the wagon, if it was too cold to camp on the ground." She took a sip of her drink, starting to - finally - unwind. "And they're good roomies, but, yeah. I don't think I even know what privacy is any more... and do something how?"

"Find you a hot, easy guy?" Priestly grinned. "Hey, we can always take a vacation back in Santa Cruz. From what I hear, Ozzy's still hanging around."

"Heh. Maaaybe?" Not a lot of enthusiasm there at the moment. But Ozzy would definitely be a better choice than any new guy she'd meet on the island. "Santa Cruz, wow. That seems even further away than... well, obviously it is, it's just..." Dinah frowned. "I am not making a lot of sense here, am I?"

"Not really," Priestly said, putting the finishing touches on her sandwich and holding it out to her. "But I forgive you."

More giddy giggling, and a grin. "Awww, thanks. On both counts." And oh god, that groan was nearly orgasmic. Way, way too long since she'd had food she could stop and bother to taste, instead of just wolfing it down for fuel. "Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm...!" And there were tears again. Happy tears, damn you, Priestly!

She was crying over a sandwich. Priestly's heart broke, just a little bit. "Be sure to savor that," he said. "If it's been that long since you had good food, you don't want your body rebelling."

That would make Priestly's heart break even more, yes.

"Noooo!" Dinah took another bite, and shook her finger at Priestly, blinking back her remaining tears. "I am not yakking this up, it is way too good." A tinier bite. Just to be sure. "I think I'm just... really tired. Not sleepy, but, you know. Tired? I don't have any defenses left. Everything makes me either thrilled or sentimental or kinda freaked out." She took her plate and walked back over to the couch. "Sleep. Eventually. And not having to worry about stuff." Oh god, all the stuff that was left made her tired just thinking about it.

"I'll do my best to maintain a worry free environment for you," Priestly promised, following her back to the couch. "Best thing for brain-tired is good food and a mindless TV show or something."

"OOo. Mindless TV. God, that's been forever. And! You promised to do my hair. And I was gonna put eyeliner on you." Dinah took another bite of her sandwich, peering at his face. "I kind of am getting used to this look on you. You still look like you, just-- older." Like the guy he'd been on the Reunion weekends. "But not old. Yet."

"Yeah, I guess the island decided it was time for me to look like a grown-up." Priestly shrugged. "And you can do my eyeliner after you've had at least a nap." He was not looking to get stabbed in the eye, here. "But I'll do your hair whenever you want."

"I did have a shower today." It had been cold, damn cold, but still. Clean. She'd needed that. "Sooo now's good?" Dinah grinned at him. "But I don't have any ribbons or barrettes... should we watch mindless reality TV, or mindless Dr. Sexy TV, or mindless car racing movie TV?" SO MANY CHOICES!

"It's the lady's choice," Priestly said. "I've had plenty of time for mindless tv, after all."

"Dr. Sexy," Dinah decided. "'Cause I want to see what Dr. Hottie is up to." He had a goatee! Sort of. Also, he wasn't as moody as Dr. Sexy. More food, and Dinah was listing sideways into Priestly. "And the heart surgeon. I could use a snarky heart surgeon chick's sarcasm right now."
