Priestly's apartment, Friday night

So Priestly and Dinah, being untraditional in all of the things, hadn't actually gotten around to celebrating their one year anniversary on the actual day.

Or the day after the actual day.

Or the few weeks after the actual day.

Whatever, they weren't about that kind of thing. They were all about casual and cozy and just being awesome together. Still, there was nothing wrong with celebrating their casual, cozy, awesome togetherness lasting without major upset for more than a year, right?

Right.

Also, Tia and Mark were both planning to be out of the apartment for the night, and Priestly had gotten himself a fancy new toy he'd been wanting to try out. He gave Stevesie a treat ball to play with, tucked him away in the bedroom, parked Dinah at the kitchen island, and started setting up his mise.

"We should have music," he said. "Something to set the mood. Any ideas?"

"But I'm hungryyyyy," Dinah whispered in his ear, then giggling and giving him a hug. Everything looked delicious, man, but then again... "But I do love a good fire."

He so had the perfect audience for this presentation.

That was precisely why he'd picked it. "I knoooooow," he said back, matching her tone for tone. "But this is worth waiting for."

Like the two of them were. Priestly was sure they'd never have managed anything like this if they'd started hooking up any earlier.

He dished out the ice cream -- not taking his time to shape it carefully the way the guy in the video had because, dude, his girl was hungry -- and then grabbed the wine glass again. "Cherry liqueur, some more of that grand marnier, heat it up. . . ." Another glass of blue fire, mmm, look at that. "And pour it gently over the whole thing, ice cream and all."

The ice cream barely started to melt as blue licked its way over the crepes and sauce, then flickered out.

"Tada! Crepe suzettes."

Dinah caught her breath again when the glass lit up, because pretty, and also, that level of skill was just hot. "That was cool enough to make me suspect CGI. I think I'm gonna have to eat this to prove it's real. And then have makeouts with the chef to prove you're real."

"Well. I mean. I definitely can't argue with that."

"Yay! I'm glad we agree on tonight's agenda." Dinah bumped her hip against his, and TK'd a fork to herself. "You are getting so many songs for this. With fishnets, even. In so many languages." Not a euphemism, but, it doe kinda indicate where everything else that evening could go.

"Fishnets!" Priestly pressed a big sloppy kiss to the side of her head. "My favorite! God, it's like you know me."

"Exactly like that! I know you even when I don't know me," Dinah said, taking a bite of crepe and letting her eyes roll up in her head. "Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!"

"You knew me before I even really was me," Priestly mused, drunk on success, though he'd barely even touched his wine yet. "Guess you're stuck with me, huh?"

"Nope," Dinah said cheekily, then leaning in to give him a sticky ice-cream-laden kiss. "I'm hoarding you. Like a treasure, or a big pile of diamonds. Not sharing. So not stuck. See?"

Mmm, ice cream kiss. "You are so gross," Priestly said fondly. "Anyway, I didn't mean it like that. I mean. . . ." What did he mean? "Like, we're stuck to each other, you know? I hate to give Karla and Momo this much credit but they apparently really did kinda have the right idea all those years. I can't imagine being this close with anyone else. Ever."

"Me gross?" Dinah said in pretended offense. Then took another huge bite, her cheeks bulging outward like a chipmunk's. She listened to what he was saying, a look of consideration crossing her face, trying to imagine it. And... "You know, aside from Barbara and Helena, um. Yeah. I mean, they're family. So is Alfred. But it's totally different and..." She was starting to turn pink, so looked down at her dessert. "I don't want anyone else, anyway."

"See?" Priestly said, going for a lighter mood when he heard her get quiet. "Stuck." He gave her another sloppy kiss and wrapped his arms around her. "I don't want anyone else, either."

"Good thing," Dinah said, relaxing a bit, and hooking her arm around Priestly's waist. "'Cause you're kinda stuck with me too, and not in an sticky-dessert way." Jeez. Anniversaries (even a month late) were kind of making her all sentimental. More sentimental. Damnit. "We are so not telling Momo and Karla about this conversation, right?"

"Are you kidding me? They'd gloat for the rest of time." As though they weren't going to do that already. "Though it does mean we'll have to get married in secret."

Dinah's eyes got huge briefly, and then she started laughing. "Vegas, baby!" Ahahahah they would never find out that way!

Well, that was better than her panicking and running away, which was how this conversation went in at least one of the versions in Priestly's head. "Only the finest Elvis impersonator may officiate."

Dinah snickered, and buried her face in his shoulder. "Not today, though. Right?" Right? Because if he was talking about today, there would be massive freaking out. Or, you know, next week.

"You don't honestly think I'm the kind of person who would decide to throw you a surprise wedding, do you?"

Dinah pulled back and gave him a dubious look.

"Naaaah."

Although.

"Not without proposing for real, first." Which begged the question. "Was that-- was that a for-real question? About getting married? Sometime?"

"No?" Dammit, take the question mark off that, dude. "I'm also not the kind of person who would just propose out of the blue without having at least discussed it casually first." He read the internet, he knew better! "So . . . that was me bringing it up casually first."

"Oh." Hunh. "Oh!" Um. Dinah paused, then scooped up a bite of ice cream and held it out to him on a spoon. "Gimme a sec here." This was not sudden, except for the way she still felt like she was waaaay not mature enough to ever get married. And it was them, so it was not ... dreamy-silly romantic, just fun-romantic, and...

"I ..am surprisingly, kinda, okay with this idea?" Her heart-rate was speeding up, and she felt a little panicky about being okay. "I mean." Wow, feelings. So many. She butted her head against his. "You jerk. I don't have any words yet."

Priestly took the bite of ice cream and laughed at the head-butt. "Did I ask you for words? We can go back to making up an imaginary velvet Elvis wedding if you want."

"With me in the tux and you wearing the dress." See, that was a way more comfortable conversation! "I'm still wearing heels, though. And, I wanna go on the roller coaster after we say our vows." Giggles were starting to bubble up, but Dinah managed to keep a lid on them long enough to ask, "What brought this on? Our not-anniversary?"

"I'll have to find a good strong veil then. Don't want it flying off when we go down the first big hill." Priestly snuck a corner of crepe and popped it into his mouth, then shrugged. "I dunno. That. And I'm getting to the point at school where people start asking 'what are you going to do next'. So . . . I started thinking about it."

"And your answer is 'Dinah'? Ahem." Dinah snickered again, and rubbed her thumb over his lips, then licked off a bit of ice cream. "But. No. I sort of get that." Because she liked her life, and there were-- sorta goals? And. "I mean, whenever I imagine the future, you're in it with me. I guess seeing us together in various weird weekends about six times helps with that." She grinned, settling into his side. "And having crushes on you over and over. So." Her grin widened. "This could be so fun."
