Priestly's apartment, New Gotham, Thursday afternoon

"Come on, Priestly!" Tia called through the door to Priestly's room. "You've gotta go out sometime!"

"I for one support Priestly's newfound interest in hermitage," Mark said. Tia ignored him with the ease borne of long practice.

"Priestly!"

The door cracked open, and Priestly peered out, Stevesie perched on his shoulders and peering over his head. "A) it's negative a billion degrees out. 2) the question mark guy is on the streets again. I'm not coming out until he's been arrested and it's spring."

Tia sighed. "You have classes."

"I can turn my assignments in online and the professors are video-podcasting the lectures."

"You have laundry," Tia tried.

"Not going outside means not needing clean clothes." Priestly smirked and started closing the door.

"I'm going to call Dinah on you!" Tia said quickly. The door stopped closing. After a moment, it opened up all the way.

"Dammit, Tia."

Tia smirked back, showing her phone in her hand, the screen already set to Dinah's number. "Come out and I won't have to." She looked him over and sighed. "And put some damn pants on."

"They stay in the dark and out of the outside world because it is their nature. You're a human." Dinah let him have the coffee, and scritched behind Stevesie's ear with a coo. "A human who is totally missing stuff, pleeeeeeeease come out and play with me, come on."

"There are bad guys out there," Priestly pointed out. "One of whom has literally actually kidnapped me before."

Dinah's shoulders hunched at that, and she looked around to see if Mark or Tia were listening. "That's not going to happen today. I will literally throw people into traffic if they try anything."

Reassuring, yet also slightly terrifying. "But if we stay in we don't have to cause any traffic accidents at all."

"I said please!" Dinah waved one of Stevesie's paws at him. "Stevesie agrees with me. 'Go outdoors, Priestly! Find the sunshine! Forage for goods and berries!'"

"Hey, don't use my panda against me. That's dirty pool."

Snickering, she pointed imperiously to the hall closet. "Outdoor clothes. The Panda has spoken."

Priestly clutched his coffee closer to his chest. "I don't wanna."

"What are we gonna do with him?" Stevesie didn't seem to know. Dinah was taking the fact that Priestly was almost-dressed to be outside as an indicator that he did kind of want to leave. "We can go somewhere warm. I promise. Like the Arboretum, California boy. Don't make me move from bribery to blackmail."

...okay, she had no blackmail material she dared use, but still.

Priestly snorted. "Please. I have way less shame than you do."

And he was dressed this way because he had overheard there was a possibility he would be actually dragged outside.

Dinah sighed. "Fine. Bludgeoning it is."

Okay, not literally, but there was now a firm but inescapable grip on his jeans loops, and tugging down the hallway happening.

"Hey. Hey! You're gonna stretch out my jeans!"

"Not if you come along quietly!"

The roommates were probably recording this by now.

Of course they were.

"What if I promise to go outside tomorrow?" Priestly tried desperately.

It was a lie. He wouldn't be any more willing to go outside tomorrow, either.

"Tomorrow I have a stakeout. Do you want to join me on that?"

Now, see, that would be cold.

More tugging. And shoving. And a panda chittering at your socks.

Hey, careful with that shoving! You were going to make him spill his coffee. "You're a crazy person. You know that, right?"

"Crazy is just what genius is called before it makes it big," Dinah informed him, opening the closet door. Boots were tossed in his direction. A bobble hat was held out threateningly. "If you want me to make this a kidnapping, we can do that."

Priestly pouted at her. "You're mean."

Dinah giggled. "It's really cute that you think that'll work. C'mon. Sooner we're out, sooner you can get more coffee and then a warm place."

"You're seriously not going to let me not go, are you." Priestly gave a loud, put upon sigh. "Fine. But I am going to be grumpy the whole time."

He would probably be perfectly fine once he was actually outside and moving.

"I know I abuse our friendship like this, but it's only because I want you to be healthy and feeling well. And not pale like a mushroom."

See, that's almost like revenge for all the times he tried to make Momoko eat healthy food.

"And yup, we're going. One way or the other." Dinah grinned and called out to Tia, "We're leaving now! As soon as he has boots on!"

"I would like it noted for the record that I am doing this under protest," Priestly said.

Tia rolled her eyes, scooping Stevesie up and scritching between his ears. "Yeah, man. We kinda noticed."

"I promise to bring him back unkidnapped and in one piece," Dinah said, holding up three fingers like a girl scout. She settled a hat on Priestly's head and opened the door. "The Outside World awaits your exploration, Captain."

"If I were the captain, I'd be in charge," Priestly said sullenly, slightly muffled by the scarf now pulled up over the bottom half of his face. "I'm one of those ensigns that gets killed in the first five minutes of a classic Galaxy Quest episode."

"Noooo," Dinah protested, hugging and tugging him along to the stairs. "You're at least the First Officer, they never die, dude. Sometimes they get transferred, though."
